Fla. Senate to Vote on Redistricting Maps Today

The Florida state Senate is scheduled to vote on new redistricting maps Tuesday, but several voter-rights groups aren't happy with their options.

The League of Women Voters says they proposed their own options, which they say were denied.

On January 12th, they sent a letter to the redistricting committee chairman expressing frustration that their maps won't be considered.

Critics say the maps violate constitutional amendments5 and 6, which were passed back in 2010. Those amendments ban lawmakers from drawing maps protecting the seats of incumbents or to favor one political party.

I don't like the fact that they are carving out districts to save incumbents, to create minority districts, and violating the intent of the referendum to not do that.
