Tallahassee, Fla. (AP) -- Florida Republicans are taking in millions in campaign contributions.
Campaign reports filed Tuesday showed that the Republican Party of Florida raised nearly $7.5 million in the final three months of 2011. That was the best fundraising quarter the party had last year.
The party received donations from those deeply involved in the fight over casinos that just started in the Florida Legislature. A subsidiary of Genting, the company that wants to build a casino in Miami, donated $200,000 while an arm of casino opponent Disney also donated $165,000. The Seminole Tribe of Florida gave the party $175,000.
Another large chunk of money came from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, which donated more than $600,000 to the Republican Party.
The Florida Democratic Party has not reported its donations yet.
