Expanding Open Carry Laws in Georgia

Lawmakers are pushing to expand gun carry laws in Georgia.

They want the legislation expanded to include churches.

It comes on the heels of last year's law allowing people with concealed weapons permits to carry guns at airport drop-off and pick-up sites, but this new proposal gives property owners the power to decide if guns are allowed on their premises.

"I believe in the right of the churches to decide for themselves, not the national movement of a particular religious persuasion or different sects of religions," said Minister George Rhynes.

"We do not need guns on church premises,” said Solomon Baptist Church minister JD Martin. “I think if we would do a better job of working and trying to change the mentality of persons in our community that we would have a better society."

The bill must now make its way through several House committees before lawmakers vote on it.
