Bachmann: U.S. Courts Must Not Follow Islamic Law

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Republican presidential hopeful Michele
Bachmann says American courts must not follow Islamic law.

The Minnesota congresswoman told an audience in the nation's
capital that as president, she would not allow U.S. courts to rule on the basis of "Sharia law for some people and the Constitution
for others."

Bachmann said efforts to apply Sharia law "must be resisted across the United States."

A voter-approved amendment to Oklahoma's constitution barring its courts from considering Sharia law was blocked by a federal judge, whose ruling is under appeal. A Muslim plaintiff said the amendment would violate his religious rights and invalidate his will, which is based in part on Islamic law.
