MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- The state Department of Transportation is looking at replacing its 24-year-old jet, which is used by the governor for some of his travels.

Department spokesman Tony Harris says the Cessna Citation II is running up increased maintenance costs and has been down for nearly a third of the year.

Harris says the department is looking at leasing rather than buying, and it is considering a Cessna Citation CJ3, Lear 70 or Embraer Phenom 300. He says leasing a plane would likely be $55,000 to $60,000 per month.

He said the jet is used by the governor and department officials for travel.

Funding for the aircraft would come from the department's budget, which relies heavily on state fuel taxes.
