MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- Alabama Supreme Court Justice Michael Bolin is resigning from his position on the state's highest court to become a member of the legal team for Alabama's largest county.

The Jefferson County commission's GOP majority said they support Bolin, a Republican and former county probate judge.

Commission President David Carrington says Bolin "will be a valued addition to the county's management team."

Chief Justice Roy Moore told that Bolin would be greatly missed on the court.

Moore says Jefferson County is going to get an excellent attorney.

County officials say Bolin will be offered an annual salary of $224,000.

Bolin is a former county probate court judge elected to the state's high court in 2004 and re-elected in 2010. His current six year term expires in 2016.
