MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- Alabama residents supporting immigration reform are among those gathering in the nation's capital for a demonstration backing changes in the nation's immigration laws.
Organizers say more than 220 immigrants and supporters will be in Washington for a march and lobbying efforts beginning Wednesday.
First they plan to gather at the office of Alabama Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions. Then they will participate in a demonstration at the Capitol.
Protesters want Congress to pass legislation that provides a chance for citizenship for people living in the United States illegally.
A bipartisan group of senators is trying to finish legislation to secure the border and put 11 million immigrants here illegally on a path to citizenship. They're trying to complete the bill this week.
Sessions has criticized the negotiators for operating secretly.
