Donnie Chesteen Declares He Is A Candidate For House District 87

Local Coach, Teacher, retired salesman committed to bringing jobs, supporting schools and keeping taxes low

April 15, 2010 – Montgomery, Ala – Donnie Chesteen announced that he is a candidate for Alabama State House District 87. Chesteen, running in the Republican Primary kicked off his campaign at River Junction in Geneva in front over 100 supporters.

“It is with a humble heart and call to service that I made this decision,” Chesteen said. “This was not an easy decision, but after much prayer, and consultation with my family, I decided that this was a logical extension of a life spent trying to help people.”

Chesteen, a retired salesman who has worked as a teacher and football coach for Geneva City and County Schools was raised in Hartford. He has been married to Stephanie Ward Chesteen for 30 years, and they have two children. His roots in the area are deep; his father was head coach at Samson High School and Hartford High school and was an educator in Geneva County for 39 years, and Donnie’s sales territory covered Dothan.

“I’ve been around this area my entire life. I have never seen the economy this bad. The jobs that were around when I was a kid are gone. We need to realize that they probably aren’t coming back – and make a plan for the future,” Chesteen said. “My plan would be to incentivize businesses to locate here, to support a strong school system, and to keep our taxes the lowest in the nation.”

Chesteen said he would run a very active campaign, pledging to shake as many hands, and meet as many people to discuss his positive vision for the District 87’s future. The Republican Primary is June 1.

“I’m going to do what it takes to meet enough people, knock on enough doors, waive enough signs to win,” Chesteen said. “I always coached my boys to leave it all out there on the field – and I am to playing this game to win.”
