Newt Gingrich: Staying in the Race

Fighting words from Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich, following his loss to Rick Santorum in Alabama and Mississippi, Tuesday.

The former speaker of the house blaming, the quote "elite media" for making Mitt Romney the inevitable candidate, said he would continue his campaign.

"I emphasize going to Tampa because one of the things [Tuesday] proved is that the elite media effort to convince the nation that Mitt Romney is inevitable just collapsed," he said. "The fact is that in both states conservative candidates got almost 70% of the vote, and if you're the frontrunner and you come in third, you're not much of a frontrunner."

He insisted he would go on to Florida because he was the right candidate to go up against the President.

"We need someone who can go toe-to-toe with Barack Obama and debate him and win the debates decisively."

With only South Carolina and Georgia under his belt, Gingrich remains a distant third behind Romney and Santorum in the number of delegates.
