BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A state judge has dismissed a last-minute lawsuit to halt next week's gubernatorial election or take Republican candidate Robert Bentley off the ballot over allegations he failed to properly disclose donations from the Alabama Education Association.
The Birmingham News reports that Jefferson County Circuit Court Judge Nicole Still tossed out the lawsuit Friday night because the court lacks jurisdiction to decide the matter.
Jimmy Blake contends Bentley has violated campaign finance laws and his name shouldn't be on the ballot. Bentley says the lawsuit is without merit, and it is designed to confuse voters and suppress turnout.
Bentley faces Democrat Ron Sparks in Tuesday's election.
