GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Three Republican candidates for the
Alabama Legislature from northeast Alabama have promised to cut
their legislative pay if the state has to cut the education budget.
State House candidates Wes Long and Kerry Rich and Senate candidate Clay Scofield said they would cut their pay by whatever
percentage the education budget is cut. They would put that amount
into an account to help teachers in their districts buy classroom supplies.
Long faces incumbent Democratic Rep. Jeff McLaughlin of Guntersville in the Nov. 2 general election. Rich faces Democrat Randall White of Boaz for the seat held by retiring Rep. Frank McDaniel of Boaz and Scofield is running against Democrat Tim Mitchell of Guntersville for the senate seat held by retiring Sen. Hinton Mitchem of Union Grove.
