Veteran's Leader Criticizing Run-off Candidates

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The state president of Vietnam Veterans of America contributed $150 to Bradley Byrne's campaign for governor about two weeks before accusing Byrne's opponent of airing a misleading ad about his military record during the Vietnam War.

Wayne Reynolds held a news conference June 30, where he said Robert Bentley's TV ad mistakenly gave the impression that Bentley served in Vietnam rather than stateside.

A new campaign finance report shows that Reynolds donated $150 to Byrne's Republican campaign on June 17, and Byrne refunded the donation June 28.

Byrne says Reynolds wanted the money back so that he could say that he was not a contributor to the campaign.
