MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The tally from the Republican primary for governor shows Robert Bentley took second place over Tim James by 167 votes, but James is calling for a recount.
The Alabama Republican Party announced the totals, including provisional ballots, late Tuesday afternoon in Birmingham.
James announced at his Montgomery campaign headquarters that he wants a recount. He said the people of Alabama must know the truth.
Bentley said he's preparing for a runoff July 13 with the first-place finisher, Bradley Byrne, and is reaching out to James' supporters.
The totals are Byrne 137,448; Bentley 123,960; and James 123,793.
