James to discuss Ala. governor's race at 5 p.m.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The official tally from the Republican primary for governor is still underway, but preliminary totals from most of the counties indicate Robert Bentley is hanging on to second place over Tim James.

The final numbers are expected late Tuesday afternoon. James has
scheduled a 5 p.m. news conference in Montgomery to discuss the
outcome. He has already started raising money to pay for a recount.

State Attorney General Troy King issued an opinion Tuesday backing up the secretary of state's view that a recount is not automatic in a primary election and a candidate must request it.

The second-place finisher advances to the runoff July 13 against
Bradley Byrne.
