Republican Party Votes Out Harri Anne Smith

Alabama Republican Committee has voted against State Senator Harri Anne Smith to run on the republican ticket.

The controversy stems from Smith's endorsement of democrat Bobby Bright for congress in 2008.

Smith lost the republican nomination for the second district congressional seat to state representative Jay Love of Montgomery.

Senator Smith appeared before the Republican Party steering committee Saturday in Montgomery.

Smith can campaign for state senate as a member of the Independent Party.

I have voted Republican ticket straight for the last several elections, not necesarially because the person was a Republican but because I knew of no better choice. It seems to me that,so far, Bobby Bright has done all (that Republicans) have asked. Would Mr Love have done as well?? We may never know! Looking at previous comments, it seems to me that there are a preponderance of well wishers for Harri Ann. While I am not sure that I support her (acceptance?) of donations from those with the "gambling interest", I refuse to let that be the ONLY reason to remove her from my list of those that I may vote for. No one candidate is going to be (or do) perfect. So I will continue to review the candidates (regardless of party affiliation) and place my vote with the individual that is able to convince me that they are the most qualified - ACCORDING TO MY VALUES!

I think she would be great. She is the one person you see standing up for us. How many others do you see on Tv all the time trying to get more done for our area. Just because she is a woman doesn't mean she is not doing her best for us. Some people need to get off their high horse and just face facts.

I wouldn't vote for her in ANY election. She SOLD her endorsement to Bobby Bright in 2008, and she is in the pocket of the "gambling special interest groups" here in the Wiregrass. She is a TYPICAL politician who DOES NOT do anything that benefits anyone, except herself. I do not have an R or D associated with my name - but I have the ability for abstract thinking...something that the majority of the people in our nation have lost! THINK...don't make your choice in the next election based on abstract thoughts like "She has the courage to stand up for the people of this area. Now it is time for us to stand up for her." That is an asserted conclusion based on emotion - there is not a single FACT in that statement. FACT: She endoresed Bobby Bright and that was a violation of the GOP rules for the charter in Alabama. FACT: She is under the influence of "the gambling special interest" - check the donations. She is not ever getting my vote!

We all make wrong choices at times no matter who we are or what party label we choose. If not this, the powers that be would have found something else to try to crucify her for. Someone here in SE Alabama has seriously P.O'd our ????? I guess gov. is the best word to use. Our personal choices are being axed more and more, but that only means we need to fight harder than ever. I have no R or D associated with my name, but regardless of what the Montgomery airheads think, I still have some good old common sense and will prayerfully vote for MY choice. My heart aches for Harri Ann, but she's a tough lady and I don't think she knows the meaning of the word "quit". I hate to think of what will happen to us if she does.

Here is living proof that the Repubicans will eat thier own. As for stumping for Bobby Bright, the Repubicans got the best guy for the job. He does all thier bidding and calls himself a Democrat. What else could they ask.

The Republican Party is not going to tell me who I can vote for. I will be writing in Harri Ann Smith on the ballot and hope that a lot of you other voters will do the same. I personally will not vote for any Republicans since they want to play this way. And why will WTVY not print any of my comments on this site? Is it because they are BIG TIME REPUBLICANS?

I defend the "let the people decide" This area is loadeded with farmers, military retirees and ordinary folks. We can think for our-selved, give us a chance to decide.
