Alabama State Representative Warren Beck was laid to rest in his hometown of Geneva on Sunday.

Beck was remembered fondly for his big heart and selfless service to the wiregrass.

People poured into First Baptist Church to pay their final respects to the longtime wiregrass leader.

“Warren was such a great friend to the people of the wiregrass,” said state senator Harri Anne Smith.

Senator Smith was close friends with Representative Beck.

“He's just a prince of a fellow, just a wonderful friend and just full of love and full of life,”

She says Sunday’s service was a fitting tribute for a great man.

“It was a beautiful service today with Warren's brother giving the eulogy it talked about celebrating life and how bigger, larger than life Warren was and how much love he had for the area,”

“The service was just very special, everybody talked about that infectious smile and that great laugh,” added Smith.

The 65-year-old Beck was found dead in his Montgomery hotel room on Wednesday. Initial reports suggest he died from natural causes. His passing came as a shock.

“After I learned that Warren had passed away, it's been very difficult for me, I’ve lost a very dear friend and a great teammate,” said Smith.

“He was dearly loved, he loved the area, a great legislator and we're going to miss him dearly,”

Beck was first elected as a state lawmaker in 2002. At the time of this death, he was in his second term as Alabama’s representative from the 87th district.

“The state house is really going to miss him and we're all going to miss him here in Geneva and Houston counties, we just appreciate everything he did for us,”

The Geneva High School and Troy University graduate was later buried in the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Geneva.

An exact cause of death has not yet been determined.

Representative Beck leaves behind a wife, two daughters and four grandchildren.
