Students Compete in WCC Math and Computer Science Olympiad

Dothan, AL - Wallace Community College leaders are trying to create interest for math and science among high school students.

About 850 teens were on campus to compete in the Tri-State Math and Computer Science Olympiad Friday.

They competed in different divisions from Algebra and Geometry to Computer Literacy and Microcomputer applications.

Winners received trophies, and some were even awarded scholarships.

"We do this to stimulate interest in mathematics and computer science, and also as a recruiting tool to hopefully get some students to come to Wallace and major in those things and transfer them,” said Wallace Community College Computer Information Science Director Lisa Sanders.

This was the 31st annual Olympiad.
