NICEVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- A Florida Panhandle bus carrying 31 students home after their first day of school rear-ended a pickup truck.

The Florida Highway Patrol reports that 72-year-old Charles Washington had recently left Bluewater Elementary School Monday afternoon when a truck stopped in front of him in traffic. Washington failed to brake and hit the other vehicle from behind.

The pickup's driver sustained minor injuries, but no one on the bus was hurt.

The Northwest Florida Daily News reports that Washington was charged with careless driving.
