Henry County Schools Increase Security

Students, parents and visitors can't just walk into a Henry County School any more.

"We have implemented security measures by putting in security doors at each of the main entrances at each of the schools where they are buzzed into the office we have an intercom outside the door where you will just have to push a button and it does to the office and you are buzzed in and they will ask you for your information before they let you in to our schools," said Superintendent of Henry County Schools Lesa Knowles.

Surveillance at the main entrance is not the only thing making schools safer they also added fencing around the campus to make sure there is only one way in and out

"We also put a fence up to close the school in which I think is very great because no outsiders can just walk in they can't just walk in or be buzzed in," said Abbeville High Principal Darryl Brooks.

The school district teamed up with local law enforcement to keep students safe.

"We actually take our start team to the school and they actually have scenarios active shooter scenarios where they do go through the halls in the classrooms of the school they practice out there," said Henry County Sheriff William Maddox.

Everyone's main priority is the students.

"That's a big thing now parents just want their children can feel safe during the school day so this will help ensure them that we have increased the security we are doing everything possible to make sure their child is well taken care of," said Brooks.

"We are doing everything we can to protect our children and keep them safe because we know that we want our children to feel safe at school and we want our parents to feel safe when they are at our school so we just felt this was something we needed to do," said Knowles.

To ensure maximum security, the Henry County School District also did a walk through of every school to make sure each classroom door locks securely.
