Georgia School System Considers Assault Rifles for Guards

A north Georgia school system is considering arming its resource officers with assault rifles.

Gainesville City Schools is looking into letting campus police officers at three of its eight schools use the weapons.

The rifles would be stored in the schools and used in case of an emergency. Right now officers only have pistols.

The city school board will vote on the measure on October 1.

It would cost $6,000 to buy the rifles.
