Florida spends one of the least amounts of money on individual students in the country, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

A report released yesterday showed that Florida spent $8,887 per student in the fiscal year 2011. That is significantly lower than the national average of $10,560.

The sunshine state ranks 42nd in per-student. The report does not take into account what has happened in the past 2-years. Florida cut spending by more than a billion dollars in Gov. Rick Scott’s first year in office. Funding was restored in 2012 and more than a billion dollars was added in this year’s budget.
