TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- The state Department of Education is launching a campaign to give parents more information about the new, tougher version of the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test.

It was launched Monday, six days after the State Board of Education passed an emergency rule lowering scores on the FCAT 2.0 writing exam.

The rule allowed about 80 percent of students to pass -- the same as last year. Otherwise, only about a third of students would have passed.

One part of the campaign is a call center where parents can get questions answered from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. The toll-free number is 866-507-1109.

There's also a website with information at http://www.floridapathtosuccess.org/ and a public forum at http://parents.fldoe.org/home .

Parents also can ask questions and voice opinions through email at justforparents@fldoe.org.

If the parents wouldn't let their students play video games through the week, just on weekends. If the parents would show a interest in their childs education and get involved with helping them learn.Kids like to impress their parents. If they make a good grade, reward them. Even if it's a note { stuck in their book bag } from you telling them how proud you are of them. They wouldn't have such a problem with the F-cat. My child is in college and he still likes to call and tell me about what courses he's taking and about how good, or he sucked on such and such test. I have no idea what he's talking about so I look up on the computer about what courses he's refering to, so I can talk to him about it later. He knows if I take time to do that, he knows I still care.
