VALLEY, Ala. (AP) -- Valley High School in east Alabama was put on lockdown Thursday after police found a large amount of marijuana and a loaded AK-47 in a student's car.
Several law enforcement agencies were conducting a surprise joint search for illegal drugs and a drug-sniffing dog became fixated on a car in Valley High School's parking lot. The school is about 25 miles northeast of Auburn, near the Georgia state line.
Authorities say they recovered 18 bags of marijuana and arrested a 16-year-old student on charges of unlawful possession of marijuana and possession of a deadly weapon on the premises of a public school.
The unidentified teen was taken to the Lee County Youth Development Center.
