Some Houston County students were put to the test on Wednesday night.
14 students faced off in the annual county-wide spelling bee. To win, students had to spell words like “bandersnatch” and “diatribe” correctly.
Jordan Beck of Beverly Magenet School won the contest after multiple rounds. Nathanial Olliff from Houston Academy came in second place.
The champion word spelt by Beck was “mahi-mahi”. He will now study for the state-wide spelling bee which will take place in Birmingham in March.
