Marianna, FL - Four Jackson County School administrator positions are up for grabs and school board members have been scrambling to fill the spots. "There's always anxiety when positions are altered in the county" said Dr. Terry Nichols, the District One Representative for the Jackson County School Board.

Board members held a special meeting Friday to discuss some of the potential candidates. But of all the schools with upcoming changes, Marianna High School will face the most. Their principal and assistant principal are both retiring.

"Today is retirement day and it's going to be a bitter sweet day" said Marianna High School Assistant Principal, Clarence Bellamy. He's been a Marianna Bulldog for 12 years and said that wasn't going to change. The school gave him lifetime tickets to every sporting event. Principal Mary Sue Neves is also retiring after three years at Marianna High.

Both Administrators agreed that technology had significantly changed the education field since the pair began their careers.
"Kids these days embrace it. I mean, you've got social networks and so forth and education has to compete with that" Bellamy told us. And to compensate, Neves said, "our teachers have to teach differently and use different strategies."

But teachers aren't the only ones who came up with new strategies. Nichols told us the school board also explored new options in selecting candidates for the open positions. "The desire of the board was to move some of these younger administrators into senior positions, and in some cases that's what we're doing" he said. Though some names names were discussed in the meeting, spots have not yet been officially claimed.
