Alabama’s 8th graders are below average in math and science compared to other students in the U.S. and around the globe.
That's according to a study by the National Center for Education statistics.
36 U.S. states scored above the international average in both subjects.
Alabama however was among six states to score below the international average in math.
It was also one of three states to score below the international average in science.
Two percent of the state's 8th graders met the advanced benchmark for math, and five percent met the advanced benchmark for science.
