The city of Dothan is once again considering changes to its garbage collection ordinance and this time it affects the city's schools.
Dothan interim city manager Jerry Corbin is recommending the city no longer pick-up garbage at public schools. Instead, Dothan city schools would be required to contract-out their garbage pick-up with a private company.
The estimated cost savings to the city would be more than $50,000 a year, but city leaders say they want to provide an annual allowance to the school system to help offset the projected $30,000 cost.
Corbin says he expects the change to go into effect within the next 90 days – with commission approval in the next couple of weeks.
