GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -.
University spokeswoman Janine Sikes said Monday the jobs are being eliminated as part of the university's $42.2 million in budget cuts to address reduced state funding.
The biggest losers are the UF's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, which is cutting 20 staff positions and the College of Journalism and Communications, which is eliminating 17 positions, including 14 at its broadcast stations.
Faculty members are receiving a one-year notice and staff members are getting 45 days notice.
Layoff letters started going out Monday and the final letters will be sent next Monday. Most of the employees had already been notified.
