A commission headed by Gov. Riley agreed to provide more than $1 million for school construction projects.

The biggest projects approved by the Alabama Public School and College Authority were:

  • $500,000 for repair and replacement of classrooms at Snead State Community College

  • $250,000 to Summerdale Elementary School for construction of a gymnasium

  • $100,000 for the Coosa County Board of Education for construction of Central High School

  • $100,000 to Central Alabama Community College for One-Stop in Talladega

  • $50,000 for construction and computer purchases in the Holtville schools

  • $32,000 for roof repair at Leeds High School

  • $25,000 for construction and equipping Owen Hall at Chattahoochee Valley Community College

  • $25,000 for computer equipment and classroom renovation in the St. Clair County school system

  • $25,000 for computer equipment and classroom renovation in the Etowah County school system

  • $15,000 for computer purchases at Prattville Intermediate School

  • $5,000 for safety fencing two elementary schools in Auburn

  • $5,000 for a video surveillance system at Opelika High School

  • $5,000 for air conditioning at Smiths Station Intermediate School
