Newsweek magazine has published its list of the nation's top high schools. Huntsville's Grissom High School makes the list as does two Birmingham area schools, the Alabama School of Fine Arts and Mountain Brook High School.
The 737 schools listed are tabbed by Newsweek as being among the top four percent in the nation. The magazine's Challenge Index divides the number of graduating seniors into the advanced placement tests taken in 2002.
Grissom administered more than 600 AP tests, as part of what Principal Tom Drake calls an aggressive academic program that relies on volunteer teacher participation and dedication by students.
