Officials with two Wiregrass school systems went back before a judge Wednesday, trying to get removed from a long-standing federal court order.
The U.S Justice Department has been monitoring Houston County schools for hiring and promotion practices, extra-curricular activities, student assignments and diplomas as well as discipline.
School officials agreed to have their hiring and promotion practices monitored for another year. But they contended that racial unity has been achieved in all other areas and U.S District Judge Harold Albritton agreed.
Henry County school officials were completely released from the court order.
They were supposed to provide school facilities in Abbeville at least equal to those in Headland and a New Abbeville High School met that requirement.
