Five Extra Days

Alabama’s public school children can plan on being in class five extra days when the 2006-2007 academic year starts.

Thursday, Governor Riley signed legislation that extends Alabama’s school year from 175 days to 180 days.

The law makes Alabama’s school year equal to the national average and equal to what all of Alabama’s neighboring states require.

Extending the school year will boost the pay of employees by 2.75 percent.
