Opp New School

Officials hope to eventually break ground on a new school.

There's a degree of urgency to replace south highlands elementary due to several health concerns.

South highlands elementary school principal, Bret Kinsaul, points to where rain water has stained a hallway wall, but the big problem is mold, it's everywhere one classroom is now closed permanently due to mold, the school board has bought 45-acres for a new school.

It will either be home for a new elementary, or high school, in any event, south highlands will eventually be closed:

Funding sources for a new school have not been ironed out officials are looking at everything from a property or sales tax., to a state bond issue: Brenda dauphin now uses a de-humidifier to help remove the airborne mold spores, nut., it's not a cure all

If the mold is attributed to student and faculty illness, the state department of health could order that south highlands elementary be vacated permanently.
