Reindeer Alive and Well
MORAVIA, N.Y. (AP) - Children in an upstate New York town can rest easy. Despite the rumors, those aren't the bodies of Santa's reindeer hanging outside a local hardware store.
That story made the rounds in the Finger Lakes town of Moravia after a local businessman and some friends returned from a hunting trip to Quebec, where they bagged ten caribous.
Before the carcasses were processed for meat, one hunter hung them outside his business. That sight was enough to create a lot of worry at a local elementary school.
Parents have been trying to squelch the rumors by telling children the animals are caribou from Canada -- and not Santa's reindeer.
The story is believed to have been started by older kids.
