Local High School Vandalized

An area school is cleaning up after profane words and images were spray painted all over campus.

"I came in late and I saw it. I was just, I couldn't tell you, it's just wrong to do it, especially the senior class. We're supposed to be leaders and we show this kind of example," Carroll High School Senior Kyle Vance said Tuesday.

It wasn't exactly what Carroll he had planned on doing Tuesday morning when he came to school.

Vance, along with other Carroll High students began the clean up on their school that was vandalized Monday night.

Carroll High School Principal Jacqueline Kelley said, "Sometime between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m., the school was vandalized, predominantly spray painting on the exterior of the building. Some on brick, some on painted areas and one football dressing room had a bit of spray paint inside of it. The rest of it was on the exterior side of the building."

Principal Kelly says the school has filed a report with the police and believes three or four students at the school were involved.

Ozark City Schools Superintendent Michael Lenhart says though this incident is a disappointment to the school, through it he's seen many of his students come together.

"When I came up here today I expected to see all the graffiti, but what I'm seeing is a group of students who do have pride in their school and their taking the initiative to paint over the graffiti and get the school back to clean looking and as pristine looking as it can be," Superintendent Lenhart said.

For Vance and his fellow classmates, ridding the school of the graffiti proves the senseless actions of a few, don't represent the entire senior class.

Principal Kelly says the cost of the damage is estimated at $2500 dollars, something they hope is repaid after the suspects are caught

Authorities say the suspects could face criminal mischief charges in the first degree and third degree burglary if charged.

I am a Senior of CHS and I am upset our classmates would do something like this. I have a 6 month old son who has to go to tnhis school when he is older and he should not have to see his school vandalized. Maybe the people getting caught will deter later classes from doing unthinkable crimes to this school. GO CHS! PRIDE OF THE WIREGRASS!

I also go to Carroll High School. When I arrived at my school I was in awe! I cried so much knowing someone would be so cruel. Carroll is a wonderful school and I take pride in saying I am a CARROLL HIGH EAGLE! CAAAKKKAAAWWW

I go to Carroll High School (Sophomore) and it really hurt me to see what had happened. I drove to school this morning and just couldn't believe what was on the building, football stadium, ticket booths, etc. It brought our school together but also got people to say that my graduating class did it but we did not. But basically we hope that everything will get back to normal and nothing happens like this again.
