Western Coffee County Student Enrollment Increase

Elba City Superintendent Danny Weeks, says enrollment is up by nearly 50 students compared to this time last year.

Weeks says state funds are tied directly to the enrollment numbers.

The State Department of Education uses a complicated formula to fund additional teacher slots for a higher student population.

Officials say the largest increase is at the elementary level.

With the reopening of Dorsey Trailers and several new companies, people are once again moving into western Coffee County.

School officials say the district also has plenty of capital projects money, but those funds can only be used for buildings and equipment.
