Small Earthquake Strikes East Alabama

OXFORD, Ala. (AP) - A small earthquake hit northeast Alabama on Monday morning.

The Anniston Star reports that the 2.3 magnitude earthquake struck at 8:16 a.m., according to the U.S. Geologic Survey.

It was centered in the east Alabama city of Oxford.

Jonathan Gaddy, director of the Calhoun County Emergency Management Agency, told the newspaper that his office had not received any reports of damage due to the quake.

While the earthquake was not very powerful, it appears to be among the strongest recorded in Calhoun County.
