Pies, Handwriting, and Foot Sizes: The Unusual Holidays of January 23rd

Three unusual holidays take place on January 23rd celebrating a dessert, the size of your feet, and the writings of a pen.

National Pie Day is celebrated on January 23rd. According to the American Pie Council, apple pie is the favorite of 36 million Americans, with Pecan Pie the third favorite. The holiday began in 1986.

National Handwriting Day was started by the Writing Instrument Manufacturers Association in 1977. The holiday was selected to coincide with John Hancock’s birthday, which is one of the most well-known signatures.

January 23rd is also Measure Your Feet Day. The origins of this holiday are obscure and unknown.
