The first of many planned conventions in 2013 celebrating the wildly popular animated series “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” kicked off over the weekend in Las Vegas.
The first major convention for Bronies (the most popular name of adult fans of the series) and other fans alike for My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic for this year began in Las Vegas on February 22nd with the Las Pegasus Unicon. The name is a play on Las Vegas that was delivered as a line of dialogue in an episode of the series.
Taking place at that city's Riviera Hotel & Casino, the convention brought together fans of all ages to meet with writers, voice actors, and other talent from the show. In addition, popular fans within the community that create unique music, artwork, and other material based on the show were present as well.
Many panels took place where fans could ask questions of actors and writers. In one such panel, The Writer's Room, fans found a favorite writer from the first two seasons of the show, Amy Keating Rogers, will be back for the show's upcoming fourth season.
This is just the first of many conventions planned not only across the country, but the world, in 2013. BronyCon, one of the longest-running meet-ups celebrating the show, will be in Baltimore in August. GalaCon will be an international convention that will be taking place in Germany, also in the month of August. In addition, numerous other conventions—large and small—will be taking place in France, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, Indianapolis, Australia and many other locations.
