Viewers have responded with comments and views to stories on our webchannel about unusual and unique holidays, a hot-selling comic book, an amusing animal video, and a little video game news.
Tuesday, April 16th was National Librarian Day. This is not an officially-recognized holiday, but the day takes the time to honor the men and women who work at libraries across the United States. On our Facebook page, several of our viewers commented about the day. Jamie Brand prefers “The [E]nterprise library and every1 that works there are awesome! They have 10 cent books for sale and im [sic] one of the few people in the world that prefer a physical book as opposed to reading it online or on a tablet.” Tammy Waters gives a shout-out to “Mrs. Powell in the Opp public library! She is so wonderful. She will take as much time as needed and go above and beyond to help students!! She rocks!!” The web article on the holiday received 33 Facebook likes and was the sixth most popular in our news section as of Wednesday Morning.
In the world of more unusual holiday was Monday, April 15th’s National Rubber Eraser Day. We asked viewers which types of erasers they prefer and the left responses on WTVY’s Facebook page. Julie Glick says, “The block ones seem to work better IMO, but the built in ones are handier!” Tiffany Montgomery, meanwhile, has a unique eraser preference: “The scented ones from Target lol because they are very practical lol.” Jerry Hallford leaves another unique reply, saying, “The number 2 pencils taste better!”
The comic-book based on the hit animated series “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” continues to be a hit itself, with issues selling tens of thousands of copies and beating hefty competition such as Wonder Woman and Daredevil. On Twitter, a user by the name FiveIronBrony gave his compliments to the comic, saying that “the comic is GREAT! Much thanks to @katiecandraw and @AndyPriceArt for making it so AWESOME! /)” The two users mentioned by FiveIronBrony work on the comic book. The symbol at the end “/)” is a “brohoof,” a common exchange between Bronies, the teenage and adult fans of the series. The article on this story, as of Wednesday Morning, was the most popular in our 4 The Consumer section, the fifth in the news section, and had 12 Facebook likes along with some re-tweets and favorites on Twitter.
At one point, it was the sixth most popular article on the entire site. “Kansas: Goose vs. Gorilla” featured a video from the Sedwick County Zoo showing some Canadian geese scaring a gorilla away! It remains the most popular item in our Watercooler section.
Another story that got some attention on Twitter was one involving the original Nintendo Wii. That video game console is now seven years old, and some free information channels that provide news, weather, and the ability to vote on polls among others, are being shut down in June.
