Ice, Snow, Sledding and Skating in Texas (KTVT)

Icy, snowy conditions are expected to last through the rest of the weekend around the state of Texas.

The storm system is moving toward the East Coast and has already spread hazardous snow, sleet and freezing rain across much of the southwest. In North Texas drivers had to push their cars on icy roads. The ice has made parts of Interstate 35 North near Dallas dangerous, causing officials to close the highway for hours at a time because tractor trailers were stranded.

A driver of a pick up died after his truck slid off of an icy bridge on Interstate 35.

Limited operations at DFW International Airport stranded thousands of people because planes couldn't take off on the ICY runway. More than 400 flights were canceled on Saturday. The latest update from DFW from Saturday Night: At Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport more than 40 percent of scheduled airline departures were launched today, marking a welcome improvement over Friday. DFW remains focused on treating and clearing ice from all airfield surfaces, public roadways, as well as maintaining high levels of customer service.

The winter storm made one Texas ice skater happy... Marissa Mahon in Euless TX was able to skate in the parking lot of her apartment complex.

Snow Causes Accidents in Iowa (KCCI)

The Iowa Department of Transportation reported Interstate 80 lanes eastbound were closed for a time Sunday morning near Second Avenue just north of Des Moines due to a crash.
The crash was reported before 11 a.m. near the East 14th ramps.

Officials said it involved 20-vehicles. No serious injuries were reported.

A detour routed traffic off the interstate at Second Avenue.

Road conditions across Iowa show highways and interstates as partially to mostly snow covered. Check road conditions at 511ia.org

The roadway reopened about an hour after it first closed.

Light to moderate snow is expected across Iowa today before tapering off this evening, National Weather Service forecasters said.

About 2 to 4 inches of light fluffy snow can be expected over central to northern Iowa by this evening. Some isolated higher amounts are possible in north-central Iowa, forecasters said.

The snowfall looks to taper off from west to northeast this evening. A winter weather advisory remains in effect until midnight.

Big Storm Dumps Snow on East Coast, Travel Dicey

A storm that crept across the country bringing snow, ice and miserable road conditions is heading toward New England as more wintry weather was expected to persist in making it hard on air travelers.

Online air traffic site Flightaware.com says more than 1,000 flights are already canceled for Monday following days of icy, snowy weather from Texas to the East Coast. A winter storm warning is in effect for Baltimore and Washington, D.C., where up to a quarter inch of ice could accumulate.

Heavy snow fell Sunday in the Mid-Atlantic, with more than 8 inches reported in Philadelphia and a foot in nearby Newark, Del.

National Weather Service meteorologist Greg Heavener says icy precipitation could affect travel through the northeast corridor well into Monday.
