Trying to shake a recurring nightmare? Or just wish your dreams were a bit more entertaining? There's an app for that!
Matt Cherry takes a look at a new iPhone application that goes to work while you're asleep.
Controlling dreams has been a thing of fiction -- like in the film "inception" -- until now.
"Sigmund" is an i-phone app created by a Harvard p-h-d student. It's designed to program your dreams.
CNN Tech Writer John Sutter gave it a try.
You pull up the app before you go to bed for the night, and you choose from a list of about a thousand words, and these are things that you would want to show up in your dreams.
The words come in a number of different categories, like adventure, sports, and romance.
The app calculates what time you'll reach "REM" sleep -- when you're most likely to be dreaming -- and that's when a soft, female voice repeats your selected words over your i-phone's speaker.
It's based on a sleep study that found it was possible to alter participants' dreams about a third of the time.
I sort of found myself thinking about it a lot while I was trying to fall asleep, and it took a lot longer for me to fall asleep than it normally would.
So would you give it a try?

The app costs 99 cents. Its creator hopes it will do more than just end nightmares.
His hope is that people can use it to try to visualize themselves doing well in a setting, like an athlete.
You know, a lot of athletes visualize success, and that by planting those words in there you could achieve that.
