CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico (AP) - Mexican and U.S. authorities say a
university student has been shot to death in Ciudad Juarez, becoming the fifth American slain in the violent border city this week.
The U.S. Consulate in Ciudad Juarez has confirmed that Eder Diaz, a student at the University of Texas at El Paso, was killed along with a classmate.
A Chihuahua state investigator speaking on condition of anonymity says Diaz was traveling with fellow student Manuel Acosta on Tuesday night when gunmen opened fire on their car. The investigator says Acosta was from the Mexican city of Chihuahua.
University spokesman Steve Lazarin says Sotero was studying business and Acosta was a computer information systems major.
