US Marshals Arrest Inmate Accused of Escape

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say they've arrested a fugitive from Savannah who is accused of slipping out of hand restraints, scaling a fence and rolling over razor wire to escape from the Chatham County Detention Center Nov. 24.

The Savannah Morning News reports that U.S. Marshalls captured the suspect, 21-year-old Gary Michael Johnson, on Tuesday after learning he was in Nicholls.

Authorities say he was the focus of a massive manhunt to find him after the escape.

Johnson now faces charges of aggravated assault, armed robbery, theft by receiving stolen property, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a controlled substance, giving a false name and escaping from police custody.
