US and Afghanistan Security Deal

A long-term security deal between the US and Afghanistan appears to be in jeopardy.

It could affect the withdrawal of US troops from the country next year.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai is refusing to sign a security agreement that would keep about 8,000 US troops in Afghanistan after the official pull-out next year.

He told US National Security advisor Susan Rice that US military raids on Afghan homes must stop.

He also said the US needs to show more support for peace talks with the Taliban.

Yesterday, Rice urged Karzai not to delay.
