Tornado Touches Down in New Jersey


The National Weather Service has confirmed a small tornado touched down in northern New Jersey, causing some damage.

Forecasters say the EF-0 tornado touched down at 9:17 a.m. Monday in Berkeley Heights in Union County.

They say it was on the ground for about 10 minutes and cut a path of about 50 yards wide and 4.8 miles long through New Providence and Summit.

The weather service says winds reached about 85 mph.

The tornado caused extensive tree damage, with the worst damage occurring near a sewage treatment plant in Berkeley Heights.

No injuries were reported.
