Soda sellers in New York City get a three-month grace period from fines if they violate the city's upcoming crackdown on super-sized sugary drinks.

Health Department officials still plan to enforce the 16-ounce size limit beginning March 12. The health department confirmed Monday (1/14) that it won't seek fines for the rule's first three months. Instead, violators will get notices. After the three-month grace period fines will be $200.

The rule applies to food-service eateries, but not to supermarkets or convenience stores. City officials call it a ground breaking step toward fighting obesity, while soda makers and other businesses as it's government nagging and exceeds the city's authority.
