July 16 marks the 45th anniversary of the launch of Apollo 11 - the rocket that lifted astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins to space for the first moon walk in human history.
The Apollo 11 mission was the first manned mission to land on the Moon. Apollo 11 launched on July 16, 1969. Onboard: Mission Commander Neil Alden Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin Eugene 'Buzz' Aldrin, Jr.
On July 20th, Armstrong and Aldrin left the Eagle landing module to become the first human beings to walk on the moon while Collins orbited above.
On July 24th, they returned safely to earth.
