Starting TODAY, 07/04, the public will once again be allowed to visit the Statue of Liberty.
The landmark has remained closed since superstorm Sandy damaged the visitors center and other parts of the park that surround the statue.
The statue was given to the people of the United States more than one hundred years ago by France as a symbol of friendship between the two countries.
Since that time, the statue has grown to be a welcoming sight and symbol of freedom to visitors and immigrants.
