ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (AP) -- Rescue workers are continuing to search for a South Carolina man who disappeared Sunday while swimming in the Gulf of Mexico off Orange Beach in rough waters churned up by Tropical Storm Debby.
The director of beach safety for Orange Beach, Melvin Shepard, said the search for the man was continuing Tuesday. He said rescue workers had two boats in the water searching for signs of the swimmer.
Shepard said the man had not been declared presumed dead. His identity has not been released.
Shepard said the water on the beach has calmed considerably since Sunday when Debby was still stalled off the coast.
The storm has since moved across Florida and is no longer a threat to Alabama.
